Have you ever wonder the natural hazards you could face in travelling around Europe? Or on the other hand, be aware of the risks you face in your area? Since a few days, this is possible thanks to a new App Safe Trip.
In January 2015, SWITCH-ON, a European funded project, launched an application called Safe Trip. Safe Trip informs travellers and tourists about natural hazards in a specific location in Europe (by locating them with GPS) and helps them to stay safe or travel safely. It uses information derived from open data sources.
This first (beta-) release edition indicates forest fire risks and weather information for the whole Europe and flood risk information in France, Germany, England and Wales. More natural hazards should enter the scope of the application in the coming months. At a later stage, the application will also provide users with suggestions about what to do with the hazard information shown.
With regard to the ENHANCE project, Safe Trip could use some of the project results and give more insight in traveller’s action prospects for different types of hazards.
